Elegía Torera

Symphonic poem for solo trumpet in B-flat and large orchestra, which can practically be considered a concerto in two linked movements. Dedicated to the trumpeter Marcos Quesada.
The thematic material is strongly inspired by the poems 'Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías' by Federico García Lorca, 'Verte y no verte' by Rafael Alberti, again dedicated to Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, and 'Elegía a Joselito' by Gerardo Diego.

The first part of the work, as an introduction, recounts the vicissitudes of the bullfight, of the lid. One can hear the trumpet calls, the tercios, the bustle of the crowd, the tension of the silence, the fear, the nerves, the picadors with their lances, the banderillas, the sweat of the torero, the bellowing of the bull, the fury and the long list of elements that make up a corrida. Everything proceeds naturally until, after a chicuelina by the torero, the morlaco charges him and delivers a mortal goring.
There the second part of the work begins with a fandango that represents the torero’s journey of no return; on his deathbed he mixes reality with fantasy and believes he is still fighting, that they are still cheering him. The hemorrhage will not stop and the torero deliriously sinks further, until, with his last strength failing, he hears the footsteps of Death. He faces it, shouting one final time. The bells toll. His soul is wrapped in immortality.

The work premiered at the Lehman Theater of Miami Dade College on October 10, 2023, as part of "Hispanic Heritage Month 2023".

Elegía Torera y
Raices de España
This piece, like "Amores Goyescos", premiered as part of the activities held during "Hispanic Heritage Month 2023", organized annually by Miami Dade College.
The event and concert took place under the motto "Raíces de España" at the Lehman Theater. The Miami Dade College Orchestra was responsible for the performance under the musical direction of its principal conductor, Maestro Albert Bade.
The concert was recorded in its entirety and, together with several interviews conducted during those days, later gave rise to a television program also titled "Raíces de España". This program seeks to capture the vibrant and passionate essence of Spanish music, offering the audience an unique and enriching experience.
