This piece must be understood within the context created by its kinship with the symphonic poem Elegía Torera, with which it ultimately forms a small cycle. From that kinship, to me, these two works are my little girl and my little boy.

Symphonic Poem Amores Goyescos

A young woman, dressed in traditional goyesca attire, lets us witness her emotional state and the feelings she harbors for the bullfighter with whom she is living a passionate love affair. Everything between them is idyllic, wonderful — a love story as graceful and enchanting as dancers gliding through a waltz.

But one day, while she watches her bullfighter perform in the ring, she is struck by a sudden premonition, a vision that freezes her in place. Unable to believe what she has just seen, she snaps back to reality.

There he is, still in the arena, fighting with mastery and elegance. She convinces herself it was nothing more than her imagination. And when the bullfight ends, she returns to dancing and dancing with her beloved bullfighter — never once telling him about the strange vision she had experienced.

Amores Goyescos y Raices de España

This piece, like Elegía Torera, was premiered as part of the activities held during the “Hispanic Heritage Month 2023,” organized annually by Miami Dade College. The event and concert took place under the theme “Raíces de España” at the Lehman Theater. The “Miami Dade College Orchestra” was responsible for performing the concert, under the musical direction of its principal conductor, Maestro Albert Bade.

The concert was fully recorded and, together with several interviews conducted during those days, later became a television program, also titled “Raíces de España.” This program seeks to capture the vibrant and passionate essence of Spanish music, offering audiences a unique and enriching experience.
