La morisca enamorada is a work that transports us to 16th‑century Spain, at the height of Philip II’s reign, a period marked by cultural and religious tensions.
Through its melodic and rhythmic richness, the piece tells the story of a forbidden love between a young Moorish woman and a handsome Christian knight.
From the opening bars, the music evokes the mystery and passion of this secret romance. The harmonies, inspired by Spanish music, converse with sonorities that recall both folk traditions and the textures of Impressionism, the expressiveness of Romanticism, and the counterpoint of the Baroque. Eclecticism permeates the score: moments of orchestral lyricism coexist with energetic rhythmic turns, while influences of flamenco and Arabic music emerge in passages of great expressiveness.

The thematic development reflects the intensity of the conflict: the opposition of the young woman’s family, the shadow of a spurned suitor, and the threat of an adverse fate.
As the work progresses, the orchestra and piano build a sonic narrative in which pursuit and danger are rendered in shifting textures, harmonic colors that verge on the cinematic, and a dynamic interplay that reinforces the dramatic tension.
The climax of the piece symbolizes the triumph of love over adversity: the couple manages to flee, leaving behind a trail of emotion and hope. At this point, the piano stands as the principal narrator, gliding between the poetic and the vigorous, until it reaches an ending that leaves an indelible mark on the listener.
With enveloping orchestration and a sonic discourse that transcends genres, La morisca enamorada is a tribute to tradition and innovation. As in each of his works, the composer transforms his knowledge, beliefs, and feelings into musical energy, bringing to life a story that is not only heard but felt.
It speaks; it tells us something.
