San Lorentino
Work in a single movement for B‑flat trumpet; it is a solo written as a birthday tribute for
Maestro Marcos Quesada Martín on his forty‑second birthday.

The Piece
The work consists of a brief dedicatory description of the honoree’s virtues. This is followed by the short musical piece of forty‑two bars. The musical piece, like Mar de Adioses, contains all kinds of symbolism: sonic, visual, wordplay and rhymes, numerical, cabalistic, graphic… All of this is blended in order to make the tribute as complete as possible and to serve as inspiration for creating something new that may delight the listener and, above all, the person being honored. There is a curiosity: following the German custom of creating musical motifs from a name as a form of dedication, here at the beginning of the piece the honoree’s full name is converted into notes.
Recording performed on trumpet by:
A confession: in Mar de Adioses the honoree’s name
is also converted into notes.

The Premiere
The work was premiered by the great trumpeter Marcos Quesada at the Basilica of the Royal Site of the Monastery of El Escorial in the tribute concert held as part of the commemorative events for the 40th anniversary of the Monastery’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
