At its core it is an invitation to travel through time by way of the ear. It proposes a musical stroll through the corners, alleys, and squares of sixteenth-century and seventeenth-century Madrid. Rather than offering a rigid work with an immovable beginning and end, the entire collection of pieces is conceived as an album of postcards or photographs that we can shuffle and rediscover at our own pace.

Each piece functions as a small, self-contained work of art. They use a hyperreal language that is at once magical. This means that, when listening, one can almost perceive the scents of the era, the bustle of the markets, and the skies and light of Madrid, always wrapped in a poetic and evocative atmosphere that straddles historical reality and fantasy.

The most beautiful and special thing about this proposal is its versatility and freedom. Listener and performer are not bound to a fixed order. You are encouraged to leaf through this “album” however you wish. You can listen to a single piece, group them by affinity, or invent entirely new routes. In this way, the work adapts to the time you have available or to your current mood, allowing you to create small, bespoke musical suites.

To help take the first steps on this sound map, six possible itineraries are proposed as guided routes through that classical Madrid:

  • Bigardeos: A route with a spicy, roguish air that links the legendary La Cava area with the Casa Velázquez.

  • Suite: A very central and stately route that takes us through the heart of the Habsburg Madrid, highlighting the Posada del Peine and the Casa de la Panadería in the Plaza Mayor.

  • Mentideros: Inspired by the places where Madrid’s Golden Age citizens gathered to gossip, debate politics, and spread rumors, such as the Mentidero with the Covachuelas and the Losas de Palacio.

  • Ordre del Arroyo: An evocative passage that conjures the flow of life through places as suggestive as the Callejón del Beso and the Trinidad Calzada.

  • Sonata del Alba: An itinerary that seems to capture the morning light and the awakening of old trades, passing by the mysterious Casa de los Salvajes and the Sastrería de Aceros.

  • Visitando Casas: An architectural and literary route that stops at the city’s most emblematic homes and palaces, from the very Casa de Lope de Vega to the noble Casa de los Lujanes.

In short, Postales Matritenses is a play of mirrors where music reconstructs the memory of a living city, leaving you the keys to decide which paths you want to walk today.
